Dean Men Honghua’s book Order of East Asia honored the 16th Shanghai “Silver Pigeon Award” in the publication category
In February 2022, the results of the 16th Shanghai “Silver Pigeon Award” of 2021, organized by the International Communication Office of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, were announced. Professor Men Honghua’s book Order of East Asia: Regional Transformation, Competition among Main Powers, and China’s Strategy (Shanghai People's Publishing House, 2015), sent by Shanghai People's Publishing House, 2015), is honored the “Silver Pigeon Award” of 2021.
The “Silver Pigeon Award”, the highest award for international communication in Shanghai, is granted once every two years. It is reported that there are a total of 214 winners in this year’s award, including 51 works in the publication category, 29 in the video category, one in the audio category, 24 in the design category, 12 in the image category, 33 in the international press category and 64 in the event/case category. Two of Dean Men’s books won this year’s award. In addition to the above-mentioned book, the other winner is Chinese Journal of Strategic Studies (Vol. 3): An Academic Expression of the Chinese Road (Truth & Wisdom Press and Shanghai People's Publishing House, 2016), of which he is a co-editor.
The book Order of East Asia: Regional Transformation, Competition among Main Powers, and China’s Strategy is the final product of “Research on the Prospects of East Asian Integration: Regional Order and China's Strategy” (No. 08BGJ018), a project under the National Social Science Fund of China (NSSFC). Starting from the realistic predicament of East Asia order, the book proposes the basic logic of regional order construction and establishes a theoretical foundation and analytical framework; makes a comprehensive analysis of the historical legacy of East Asia order; dissects the dynamics of the order, especially the strategic interactions among China, the United States, Japan and ASEAN, and discusses the difficulties and possible future of order construction in East Asia; and further proposes China's strategic framework for the order in the light of China's national positioning and grand strategic orientation, and analyses how China should handle its relations with the United States, ASEAN and Japan. The book is systematic and complete in knowledge structure, rigorous and in-depth in analysis, and enlightening in conclusions.
The critically-acclaimed book was approved as a NSSFC Chinese Academic Research Translation Program (18WZZ004) in 2018, and its English version was published by Springer in 2020.
This book won the second prize in the book category of the 13th Shanghai Outstanding Achievement Award in Philosophy and Social Sciences in 2016 and the third prize in the 8th Outstanding Achievement Award for Scientific Research in Higher Education (Humanities and Social Sciences) in 2020.
Prof. Men Honghua, the author of this book, is currently the dean of the School of Political Science & International Relations and the president of the Institute for China & World Studies, Tongji University. He is a recipient of a number of honorary titles, such as a distinguished professor of the Changjiang Scholars (aka Cheung Kong Scholars) Program of MOE (2021), a leading talent in Philosophy and Social Sciences of the national “Ten Thousand Talents Program” (2018), a cultural figure & a talent in the “Four Talent Programs” of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee (2017), a chief expert in the “Central Marxist Theory Research and Construction Project” (2010), and an expert enjoying special allowance of the State Council (2014). He is also a member of the Colleges and Universities Political Science Steering Committee of MOE, and a guest supervisor of the Shanghai Municipal Supervisory Committee.
